In the past, notably before Triple H's Motorhead theme hit it big, the WWE relied heavily on musical composer Jim Johnston to develop themes for wrestler entrances. In fact, Johnston has been employed by the WWE since 1985 and he's still doing some work for them to this day.

But since HHH's Motorhead theme became very popular, and then the many themes from the WWF Forceable Entry album, the WWE started to inject real band music into entrance theme songs. This was fine, at first, as many actual good artists would actually take Johnston's developed theme and work around them. Steve Austin, Chris Benoit, and Kane had AWESOME themes developed for them by Disturbed, Our Lady Peace, and Finger Eleven.

But then Randy Orton's shitty first theme hit... As opposed to the awesome theme that his Evolution counterpart Batista had (might be stock, but it's awesome). Of course, later, Batista added band music as his theme... Why the needed upgrade?

Now, today, you have Sheamus, the Nexus, Randy Orton (newer theme), and the Miz have GOD AWFUL band themes. I honestly can't tell either one apart, as each are so bland and terrible in composition for rock songs.

This differs from the past with Johnston's work... Think about Goldust's theme... It's PERFECT. It completely captures the character's aura. Kane's original is quite good, and ditto for the Undertaker's. When Johnston employed singers, he still composed the music behind it. Degeneration X's theme music is PERFECT and completely captures what DX stands for. Steve Austin and the Rock's themes are awesome. You know when that glass shatters, IT'S ON... After you hear "Do You Smell What the Rock is Cooking", the Rock's theme then captures that swagger of the Rock's character.

But now... It's just lousy rock music with zero personality. Hey, it seems to match the WWE's booking and creative ideas since the early 2000's: NO PERSONALITY

My call is to bring back Johnston's personalized compositions for WWE theme music again. Yeah, he's used on other WWE projects, such as the film studio compositions, but the WWE thrives on image and Johnston's themes have a personality to them.

Don't believe me? Look how awesome this wedding reception and how some of Johnston's compositions made awesome entrances for the wedding party (plus, sheer awesomeness of Howard Finkle):
